The Walkers were a family of twelve descended from a long line of pureblooded witches and wizards, the Griffiths. Diane Griffith, a Hufflepuff alumna, was intrigued by muggle studies and fan culture. Her grandparents didn’t approve of her interest in muggles, but her parents were accepting enough. This is fortunate as she traveled to a sci–fi convention to study muggles and that is where she met Charles Walker, a muggle from Wales. The pair of them hit it off and started to date. When Charles proposed, Diane finally introduced him to magic. Now Diane Walker and with her family’s fortune at her disposal, the two of them moved to Conwy Valley in Caernarfonshire where they built their home. Six years after they met, Diane gave birth to twins. Pippin and Merry Walker were the first born sons of the Walker family. Then came Valerian, Saffron, Anakin, and Gabriella. Diane worked in the Improper Use of Magic before she became an Assistant Healer at St. Mungo’s. During her work as a ministry official, she came across an orphanage where she found a little girl sitting by herself outside, picked on by the other children. Suspecting what the child may be, she adopted the child. Thus, Iola made another addition to the family. After Iola came Christofer, Molly, and Gavin.
The Walkers, being half-bloods with a muggle father and a muggle-loving mother, grew up in a household mixed with muggle technology and magic. They watched TV shows, movies, and participated in muggle activities. Charles would read bedtime stories to the kids, Diane always had a home cooked meal waiting. They celebrated holidays with specific traditions, like when they ate, what they ate, what activities they did, and so on and so forth. Christmas was the most important holiday in the Walker family. All of the Walkers know how to drive, with the exception of Christofer, though they may not drive well. Before his death, Charles taught the older children to drive. After he passed, Annie tried, but … so he hired Maverick Cross to teach his younger siblings.
One fateful night in the summer of 2003, three rogue Death Eaters attacked the home of the blood-traitor family. The children - except for Valerian, Saffron, and Iola - were home when the Death Eaters descended on the house. The perimeter alarm set off and Diane peaked out the window to see who it was. When she saw the three Death Eaters making their way to the door, she alerted the family and took the younger kids into the small room off the recreational room, telling them to hide and stay hidden. Charles grabbed his sword from the study and stood guard along with Pippin, Merry, Annie, Gabby and Diane in the rec room. The only way into the room was a narrow hallway. An epic duel between the Death Eaters and Walkers ensued. The Death Eaters gained the upper hand, knocking Merry into the wall where he lost consciousness, setting Pippin on fire, petrifying Annie, and hitting Diane and Gabby with Crucio. They turned their attention on the muggle, their primary target, and tortured and killed him. In her grief and rage, Diane Walker turned her wand on the three Death Eaters and used the killing curse to end their lives. By the time Pippin had extinguished himself and un-petrified Annie, the fight was over.
Once the Hit Wizards were called via floo network, Diane was arrested for using an unforgivable curse. In one night, the Walker children lost both parents in a tragic and traumatizing way. Upon hearing the news, Iola fled the Death Eaters and went into hiding. Valerian stayed with the Death Eaters for at least a few months before the Order lost track of him. Saffron, pregnant with her first, fled as well to live as a muggle. This left Annie to become the caretaker of the family, with the help of Merry and Pippin. A few months after the imprisonment of their mother, media backlash allowed for her release. However, the trauma she endured and the effects of Azkaban irreparably messed with her head, landing her in St. Mungo’s as a live-in patient.
Annie raised the younger children into adulthood. By the time Gavin was in his seventh year at Hogwarts, eight years after the attack, Iola and Saffron returned to the Walker fold. Valerian is still missing. Only Annie and Iola know of Valerian’s status as a Death Eater.
More about the family:
Pippin Walker is an anxious perfectionist who is a hard-ass about it. He’s a talented artist and musician, often holed up in his room to work on his crafts. As the fraternal twin to Merry, he is closest with him. Pippin is a bit of a clean freak, keeping the house tidy. Merry, on the other hand, is also an anxious perfectionist who uses alcohol as a coping mechanism. He is typically always drunk, and when he’s not he’s an unbearable ass. Merry is different from his twin in that he’s quite friendly, mischievous, and even downright funny at times. He’s closest with Pippin, but is nice to the other family members. It’s also important to note that Merry no longer Apparates.
Valerian Walker, the coldest of the Walkers, became a Death Eater after graduating from Hogwarts. Of course, the rest of the family was not aware of this fact, though Iola was suspicious. He was absent during the attack on the family and remained a Death Eater for at least a few months after. His whereabouts and status are unknown.
Saffron Walker, now Saffron Macready, was a party girl during her Hogwarts years, but ambitious enough to keep her grades up. She was popular and fun-loving, but also extremely clever. She became a Hit Witch after graduating Hogwarts and started to date her now husband Sherrod. When she was 22, Sherrod “fake-cheated” on Saffron resulting in their breakup. She met Ellis after that and had a whirlwind romance which resulted in her getting pregnant. He went to Azkaban (not a cool guy) and Saffron, feeling embarrassed at how her relationships had gone and the loss of her father and imprisonment of her mother, left with her newborn baby to start a new life as a Muggle. Eventually, Sherrod would come back into Saffron’s life and, when it came out that he didn’t cheat on her, the pair got back together and Saffron returned to the Wizarding World. They would marry when Saffron found out she was pregnant again. Ellie started showing signs of magic and Saffron couldn’t ignore it, so she came back home after eight years away.
Iola Walker was originally Iola Bakke, only child to Christen (pureblood) and Karen Bakke (half-blood), both Slytherins during their time at Hogwarts. The Bakkes were a long line of pureblooded witches and wizards who followed Grindelwald, then Voldemort during his reign of terror. When Iola was only four or five, her parents left to search for Voldemort and disappeared. Assumption is that they perished in their efforts to find their master. Iola was placed in an orphanage shortly after. Christen Bakke had a brother named Sebastian Bakke. Sebastian Bakke met a muggleborn in Italy by the name of Natalia Cappello and fell in love with her. After spending a night together, Sebastian left for England to be with his brother and was ultimately killed for consorting with a muggleborn. Natalia found out she was pregnant and nine months later gave birth to Iola’s cousin, Matteo Cappello.
Gabriella Walker, in her younger years, was loud, a social butterfly, and clumsy. While this dialed down some in her later years, particularly after the attack on the family, she still has poor control of the volume of her voice. She’s got a fiery temper and holds a mean grudge. Like the rest of the Walker children (except Valerian as the lucky bastard didn’t inherit it), she was dsylexic and probably sporting a few other unnamed learning disabilities. School was difficult for her, but she managed to persevere and get decent marks. During the attack on the family, she was tortured and watched her father die, her mother used the killing curse in front of her not one but three times. Once a vivacious and boisterous girl, was now quiet and reserved. And boy, is she angry. Especially at Iola.
Christofer Walker is a bit of a know-it-all. He was born with retinitis pigmentosa, with a rare de novo mutation, that caused progressive blindness. When he was younger, he was able to see and play like a normal child, but as the years went on he’d start to lose his sight. While his other senses quickly picked up the slack, his sight just got worse. As an adult, he is legally blind, but can still see a little. Chris was born shortly after Iola was adopted and the girl loved her baby brother. The two formed a deep bond at a young age. This led to a certain clinginess on the boy’s part who started to treat Iola as his mother. Iola eventually would leave his first year and live on her own. He only saw her maybe once or twice after that until the attack. He wanted to fight the Death Eaters with his family, but he was ordered by his mother to hide with Molly and Gavin. At eleven, he could see, through the crack in the door, the entire thing. His father died, mother imprisoned, three of his siblings missing. He didn’t see Iola or Saffron for eight years until they came back.
Molly Walker is independent, strong and brave. After the attack on her family, she grew to despise dark witches and wizards and made it her life goal to become someone who stops them. She admires Annie and is close with Gavin.
Gavin Walker, the youngest Walker, had grown clingy after the attack on his family, scared they’ll disappear on him. He’s an ambitious wizard who has similar goals to Molly, only Gavin wants to be strong to protect his family. He’s Head Boy at Hogwarts in his final year as a Slytherin.
