CHARLES ALESSANDRO DE LUCA
Basics;;
FULL NAME:
Charles Alessandro De Luca
NICKNAME(S):
Charles is a formal man and goes by nothing short of his name
AGE/D.O.B.:
161 yet appears to be only in his mid thirties; 03/02/1850
HOUSE:
N/A; VAMPIRE
IDEOLOGY:
Naturally, Charles is a kind and loving individual. He would never discriminate anyone based on blood status or "species". However, given the new wave of support by witches and wizards to demonize and hunt his kind, Charles has hardened a small bit. He recognizes that to protect his coven and family, there may come a time when lines must be drawn and a fight must occur.
JOB:
Charles' first priority is his coven...the vampires he has found and protect daily. Outside of that, Ky will be applying to have him own a library full of cryptid lore and history books spanning events across muggle and wizarding worlds that are often pushed under rugs and hidden. It is a place where many come to research and learn of events or things considered taboo. He also carries many books based around the arts, specifically the renaissance and Victorian era. It is a collection of every book Charles has ever read in his lifetime. The collection is ever spanning.
WAND:
N/A; Vampires are not permitted to own wands
PLAYBY:
Michael Sheen
Personality;;
LIKES:
- Knowledge; he has a million lifetimes to learn and he intends to learn all he can
- His Coven; it is his family and he would lay everything he owned down to protect them
- Justice; what would the world be without it?
- The Arts and anyone who practices them; it makes life beautiful
- Competence; ignorance and arrogance are his biggest pet peeves...Charles expects everyone he associates with to know how to run their day to day affairs well and with little to no set back. That said...he understands things happen and if he believes his help is genuinely needed, he will oblige.
- Helping others; it's in his nature to ensure his and those they love are taken care of...provided they don't willfully continue to dig themselves into holes
DISLIKES:
- Ignorance; a book can teach you a million things and takes but an hour to read. There are no excuses.
- The war against magical beings; it defies the very nature of justice and infuriates him.
- Needless Violence; it breeds nothing but hatred and contempt...pushing a vicious cycle that takes years to break.
- Carelessness; For mortals, life is only lived once. Charles cannot fathom living in a way that would jeopardize your one swing at it.
- Ultimatums; Putting him in a corner usually ends badly for anyone involved.
STRENGTHS:
- Immortality; well...mostly immortality...he can obviously still be killed. It just takes effort. And with that breath of immortality about him, Charles is able to learn practically anything...leading into point two...
- Smart; Genius really...in his mortal life, Charles was very studious, rising to the top of every class he ever took. In his "after life" he has maintained his curious nature and insatiable thirst for knowledge. If there is a topic he doesn't already know about...he will track down the information. Once he has learned it...he adds it to his library.
- Refined; Charles is a man of his time. Classy and sophisticated. His fashion is old but timeless and of the highest caliber of his time. He is often a head turner at social events.
- Charming; Perhaps its the vampiric effect...perhaps its a sign of his time...or perhaps he is simply a very charming man. Either way, Charles has a way with people, often making them feel completely comfortable around him within minutes.
- Determination; There isn't much Charles cannot do...and while part of that is him having PLENTY of time to practice things and learn them...a massive part of it is his determination and confidence. He believes he will and refuses to accept that he cannot.
WEAKNESSES:
- His Coven; Charles will literally risk everything to ensure their safety. His judgement is subject to be clouded when they are threatened.
- A certain beautiful Transfiguration Professor; he feels deeply for her and she has been known to distract him. She is also the only person who can shake his seemingly immovable confidence. He has second guessed himself often in regards to her.
- Magic; Charles was never a wizard...magic has, for over one hundred years, confounded him. He is both fascinated by it and enraged by it. It is a concept he cannot learn no matter how much he reads about it. Therefore, he is very susceptible to magical attacks...not knowing how to fight it off.
- His ego; Partner this with his vast expanses of knowledge. Charles can and will talk for HOURS about a subject if one gets him started. It's a rather easy way to distract him if need be.
- Publicity; in a time where many magical creatures wish to lay low and stay out of the public eye...Charles refuses. He lives his life loudly and proud...That's partially an exaggeration. Charles is not a naturally loud man...but his audacity is at times.

HISTORY:
Born in nineteenth century Italy, Charles lived in a rather loving household. His father worked along side several other influential men during the Risorgimento. His family was recognized as prominent and vital to what later became the Kingdom of Italy. During this time, Julietta would work with her sons and daughter with reading, writing, arithmetic, and social conduct. She was determined to raise Lords and a Lady of their time. Especially close to his mother, Charles became especially fond of her books on the Renaissance and arts. He began painting at the age of seven...began taking lessons on the piano at the age of ten...and his collection of books and literature officially began when he was thirteen and his mother gave him her copy of The Betrothed by Alessandro Manzoni, the man from whom Charles was given his middle name.
In his thirties, Charles decided he needed to leave Venice...as much as it was a hub for the arts, it was just not enough. He had made plans to travel to Berlin to study German expressionism. During that time...his entire caravan was attacked by a single man. This man was fast...attacked with expert precision...and left very few alive. Among the few left living, was Charles. They all endured a rough transformation. When it was all said and done, Charles was sure he had been turned accidentally. His assailant had fled and they were left alone. What were they to do? They all split up and went into hiding for a while.
Killings across the valleys between Italy and Germany became prevalent and were often chalked up to animal attacks. Charles always knew better. The vampires born from his attack had become feral...much like their father vampire. But Charles refused. He would never be the monster from his nightmares. It took years, but Charles traveled across Europe...settling in England. In hindsight, he supposed it was not so far fetched to believe magic existed...after all, he was a vampire. But that did not stop him from being absolutely amazed and dumbfounded on the discovery.
Charles' first wife would be a witch. And Clarice certainly opened him up to a whole new world. They lived a rather quiet life settled just outside of Diagon Alley. Charles never did turn Clarice...she was content to live a happy life with him and die of natural causes. While losing his love hurt...Charles always respected her wishes. His life was not one he would force on anyone. But after her passing, Charles told himself he would never remarry. He had found his mate and he had loved her unconditionally and irrevocably. Nothing could replace that.
Ten years passed before Charles found his first child...a young witch who had been attacked by a feral vampire soon after her graduation. Charles took her in, supporting her through the pain of a transformation, and also the emotional pain of watching her magic fade from her being. A bond unlike any other was forged between the two. Upon her attack, her father had turned her back on her...and upon Charles' attack, the promise of fatherhood was taken from him. Amanda became the daughter he was never able to have. He found he would fight for her...he would die for her...he would live each day to show her hope was not lost.
Amanda and Charles opened a small library together named The Alley Athenaeum in Knockturn Alley. They started in a small corner store that had rested vacant for long enough they were able to get a good deal on it. A small library that consisted of books that Charles had collected over the years...and over time, it grew. They moved to a larger vacancy and Charles began seeking copies of his books that could be sold. He was happy with his daughter. Amanda had brought a light to his life that he had felt he lost long before then. In time, Amanda met a mate...and when she told Charles she wished to change him, he was supportive. Their family grew by one more that day.
Over the next fifty years...Amanda became a beacon of light for lost and alone vampires. The family grew at a rate Charles had never dreamed of and in time, Amanda found them a place to all live together. A stately manor just outside of Godrick's Hollow. And for a while...all was well. Amanda would tend to the "children" and Charles would tend to his books. All seemed to settle into perfection. They had made the most out of what they had been dealt.
But fate had other plans...
The year was 1974...in the height of the Wizarding War lead by the Dark Lord Voldemort. The vampires had stayed out of it...content to mind their own business...but that didn't stop the Death Eaters from knocking upon their door. That night...Amanda and twelve more of the coven lost their lives. A hole was opened up in Charles. The death of his child was almost worse than the death of his mate. Vowing to live his life for her...Charles sought to continue her dream; Building a safe haven for vampires who wished to defy the notion that they were all monsters...Vampires who wished to live harmoniously.
To this day...Charles still spends his days tending to his books and to his flock. The Alley Athenaeum is known as a place lost and orphaned vampires can go to find home. Charles has renamed the manor Marrow Manor...in honor of Amanda Marrow. And Charles fights every day for the honor of his children and for the memory of his first daughter.
This lovely character is being played by Ky! Ky has been roleplaying for seventeen-ish years I think, and play Tova, Leo, Lizzie, Chelsea, Dani, and Vader on this site. Ky lives in the EST time zone, and you can reach them by PM and Discord
ROLEPLAY SAMPLE:
The castle had been buzzing with talk of the masquerade ball that had been quickly approaching. And now the night was finally here. Danica had taken the day and helped the school's house elves and her fellow professors in preparing. Oh how perfect every thing was looking! She smiled happily and after thanking the house elves for their help, she retreated to her chambers to prepare. After all...these children would need chaperones! And that's exactly what headmistress McGonagall expected her to do.
Once her hair and makeup were finished, Dani slipped into her gown. The black and gold accents perfectly matched her mask and she smiled. This was one of her favorite parts of her job. These children worked hard year round and they deserved a fun night of masked fun and dancing.
Making her way to the hall, Danica smiled from behind her mask at the various students who had already arrived. Taking her place near the head of the hall, Danica swayed softly with the orchestral music that was currently playing. She was going to enjoy that now...for she knew the music later down the line would be less peaceful. As popular as The Weird Sisters were...they had never exactly been Danica's cup of tea.
Continuing to gaze amongst the students, Danica felt her smile grow. Oh how she adored these children...
