You better stop pretending to be a hero
It was almost midnight and Molly was just leaving the Ministry when a familiar owl flew in and dropped a note in front of her. The Auror had recognized the owl as Minivera McGonagall’s, the headmistress of Hogwarts. Looking around, she bent down to pick it up. The note contained a hastily written message to meet outside of Hogsmeade and to come alone…that this was a matter of importance. Reaching for her jacket, Molly left the Ministry and apparated to the outskirts of Hogsmeade.
Normally she would be hesitant of such a message but it was McGonagall, so she didn’t question it and after the fiasco at the Valentine’s day dance, the blonde couldn’t help to think this might be relating to the curse caster. It wasn’t until she reached the top of this hill, in front of a rather large cave, that her stomach flopped and she whipped out her wand. This was not McGonagall at all.
Killian stood waiting in black robes and an intricately detailed mask from when he followed under Voldermorts rule. He had been teaching at Hogwarts this past year and so when the year was coming near an end, he knew his opportunity was closing as well. He knew that he wouldn’t be able to lure anyone here with his own owl and so during prep for the Triwizard tournament next year, Killian got his hands on McGonagall's owl for a quick message. Killian wasn’t looking for a fight, he was looking for information, but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t fight to get it. “Ahhh Miss Walker, so glad you got my owl” he said, smirking to himself under the mask. “I was hoping that we could chat.”
Wand steady in her hand, she held it pointed at a man she didn’t recognize, yet he remained calm under the pressure. Molly squinted, how did he know her? Who was he? Stupid questions. She was a Walker and an Auror, of course they knew who she was. “Why don’t you show me who you are and we can handle this like adults?” she taunted.
Not daring to remove his mask and blow his cover at Hogwarts, Killian still couldn’t help the smirk that came over him. She was feisty just like her sister. “You’re just like your sister, she was feisty too but not …quick enough” he said, chuckling at the memories of their encounter. “What do you know of Vadellia Allman?” he asked, taking a step closer and drawing his wand.
As the young Walker saw his wand being drawn, instinctively she shouted “Expelliarmus!” and watched as her spell soared towards the Death Eater, who only swatted it away with his own. She knew this wouldn’t be easy but she wasn’t about to go out with a fight. “Confringo!” she shot again.
Killian sidestepped her curse and listened as part of the cave behind him blew apart. “My dear..you are an open book written for very dumb children.” This was textbook Auror nonsense to him, it almost bored him. “These tactics are a waste of your time deary, you’re better off with brute force…now” he paused “Avada Kedavra” he added, a jet of green light whizzing by her as she jumped out of the way. “What…do you know of Vadellia Allman?”
Molly was breathing hard now, a little panicked with her close encounter with the Killing Curse. “Why do you want to know? Expelliarmus!” she asked before launching another curse at him. “Allman has been off the radar for years. Why would she be of interest to you?” she shouted over the wind, “Reductor”
Killian laughed. A sick and twisted laugh. He had gotten the little information he needed to start looking for himself and this fight wasn’t worth sticking around to blow his cover for. A little too cocky, her last spell caught him in his shoulder and he stumbled back. No cries of agony came from him as he had been through much worse with his father, however, it did anger him a fair bit. “Deary…these spells are for children. Half the students at Hogwarts use these spells” he said dangerously low.
“This is a crutch” he said as he cast the blasting curse and hit the auror in her chest. Molly shot back with a scream, landing hard on the ground. “These make you weak” he added, casting Reductor and sending the Walker into the stone of the cave. She looked up from the side with pure hatred in her eyes, “Expelliarmus” she squeaked but Killian easily blocked her attempts as he walked up to her. “Now these…” he paused looking down into her startling blue eyes, “Crucio” he said, remembering his upbringing with his father. “These make you strong.”
The young Walker screamed, this was torture. The pain was so intense, so all-consuming, that she no longer knew where she was... white-hot knives were piercing every inch of her skin, her head was surely going to burst with pain; she was screaming more loudly than she'd ever screamed in her life. Then nothing, the curse had stopped and she could finally breathe.
Kicking her wand from her hand, Killian leaned over and thanked her “Thanks for the little chat, Mols…but I must run.” he said, turning on his heel. Before he could stop himself, however, he turned back before apparating away. “I’ll tell gavin you say hello” he added before disapparating.
Alone one this hillside, rubble and darkness surrounding her. Molly grunted and whimpered as she pushed rocks away, making her way to her wand as she crawled on the ground. As she reached out and grabbed a hold of her wand, she mustered the strength to disapparate, thinking of her sister. Saffron would know what to do.
The hillside was once again dark and empty.
