Andrew Thomas
Andrew is a single dad to lovely Miss Poppy. His wife left them just after Poppy was born, and Andrew, in one very petty sweep removed all pictures of the woman from their home. He's a muggle, or no-maj as they say in the U.S., and a project manager for a hospitality firm. Originally from Minneapolis, the Thomas' moved to the UK for a multi-year project, which brought Poppy to Hogwarts from Ilvermorny.

Poppy Amelie Thomas was born on a particularly snowy April fifteenth at 9:30 in the morning. Considering her sunny disposition it was rather funny that she was born on a snowy day in April, but that’s the midwest for you. Minneapolis is a bustling city, and it didn’t look much like a snowy winter wonderland, but a slushy, gray mess as it splashed on the sidewalks as cars drove by. Her parents are Andrew and Amelie Thomas, however Poppy never had the pleasure of meeting her mother.
Andrew and Amelie met two years before Poppy’s birth; it had been a bit of a whirlwind romance. They were young and in love, and got married within a year or so of getting together, and were pregnant with Poppy not much later. Amelie had a very hard time with the pregnancy - not only with morning sickness and being entirely uncomfortable the whole time, but also dealt with pregnancy depression, and realized through this that she didn’t actually want to be a mother. It was hard for her to express this to Andrew, who wanted nothing more than to be a father. Less than a week after Poppy was born, Amelie took off never to be seen again.
Andrew was angry - he tried calling her, writing her, reaching out to her family, but he couldn’t get in touch with her. Amelie’s parents had passed away a few years earlier in a car crash, so there weren’t any grandparents involved. Andrew, in a rage, took all photos of the two of them and burned them, removing everything that reminded him of her. Clearly she didn’t want to be found, and was doing a very good job of remaining out of Andrew’s line of sight. From when Poppy was just a week old, it had always been just she and Andrew against the world… if you can call it that.
Andrew worked a very high-end job at a Hospitality firm; he oversaw the planning and building of various hotels and hospitality buildings all over the country. He wasn’t home very often, and when he was, he was on his phone or his laptop. Poppy didn’t have nannies - he had babysitters, and she called them that because they never lasted too long and were usually high school girls that needed a little extra cash. Andrew never remarried and never dated again, diving head first into his work and focusing only on that.
Poppy spent a lot of time in her room, which she didn’t mind as it overlooked the Minneapolis city skyline. Their apartment didn’t have a lot of things in it - in fact, any thing that was fun or enjoyable was in Poppy’s room. Computer for playing games and going on the internet, video games, movies and a television. Outside of her room was very sparse and empty, a few artistic pieces here and there and the type of carpet that you could see the lines from the vacuum because no one ever walked on it. It was kind of a sad early existence for Poppy, moving from day-care during the day to the care of a babysitter in the afternoon.
Poppy learned at an early age to take care of herself. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and macaroni (and not to mention frozen pizza) were easy things for her to make even when she was little, and on the nights that her dad was actually home did they ever eat something that wasn’t less than a dollar at the grocery store. Chinese takeout, pizza ordered from the parlor around the corner, steak, you name it. Poppy never really voiced her opinion on it and just went along with it, as it was always easier to just accept Andrew’s way of life rather than fight against the current.
Poppy showed her first sign of magic when she was five years old; neither she nor her father knew what to do about it when the succulent on the coffee table started to grow quickly and bloom, as if someone had spritzed it with magical miracle gro or something. Poppy spent a lot of time watching the plants grow, caring for them and giving them water, and this was a shocker for little Poppy, who realized that she could make them grow faster and didn’t have to do any special care. Although, it is Poppy, and of course she gave the plants special care.
Poppy also spent a lot of time at the library. She’d walk down there during the day (when she was old enough to care for herself) and spend almost all day pulling books from the shelves and reading them, and getting her library card was probably the highlight of her life. She took books home and read them, and once she realized she could borrow movies, too, she took them and would watch movies before going to bed. Poppy was a generally lonely girl, but she made friends once she started going to school, and spent more time at her friends’ houses than at her own wishing that she had a cozy house instead of an empty museum for an apartment. Wishing she had parents that took the time to come to her school events rather than having someone record them and email it over.
Poppy was a generally good kid, never really getting into trouble. She did have trouble-making friends, however, even as a kid, and had gotten in trouble with her dad a time or two, who told her to stay away from them. Poppy, of course, figured out that it wouldn’t matter who she hung out with - he’d never follow through on any of his threats so she could do just about whatever she wanted. So… she did.
When she turned eleven, she received her letter to Ilvermorny, and the school, knowing about her living status, sent someone along with her to the shopping district to get her school supplies. After Andrew approved and supplied her with money, of course. He didn’t care what she did, and actually having her at a boarding school made his life a little easier, as he didn’t have to worry about her after school or anything. It was very disappointing to her, that he didn’t seem to care that she’d be going to school on the east coast, but honestly? She was kind of pleased.
When she arrived to Ilvermorny, she made fast friends with Riley Patrick, a girl whose birthday was a month before hers. They were both sorted into Puckwudgie and were pleased that their beds were right next to each others’ as well; the two were virtually inseparable. The had classes together and did their homework together, and when Riley started to get into trouble and spend a lot of time in detention, so did Poppy. She was a changed girl, and you know what? She really enjoyed her new found confidence, finding her friendship with Riley super positive despite the trouble they were constantly in.
When Poppy would come home for the summer, her father always made a point for at least a week long trip to Florida where they’d stay on Cocoa Beach. Poppy spent her time alone, of course, as Andrew was always working. They usually reserved one day to go to Universal Studios, but as Poppy grew she found that part far less interesting, and they just stayed at the beach. One of her favorite memories is standing on the beach and letting the water run over her feet as she stood in the sand… it was usually the one thing, aside from the view outside her apartment bedroom window. When she got older, she spent a lot of time with her friends from the apartment building, driving to the Mississippi River to fish or go swimming, and spent a lot of time at the pizza parlor around the corner from their building. Otherwise Poppy was more than happy to go back to Ilvermorny each fall.
At school aside from getting in a ton of trouble, Poppy excelled at Botany and Chemistry, finding classes like Defense Against Dark Arts, Charms, and Magical Creatures easy and fun as well. Poppy tended to do really well in her classes, which in turn made Riley a little jealous, and there was always some competition between the two. So much so that when the last spot on the quodpot team was up for either her or Riley, she backed out so her friend could have the spot. Riley quit a week later, Poppy found out, because the only reason she tried out was to compete with her.
Other than Riley, Poppy had a few friends, but they weren’t as close. She dated a bit… nothing serious or more than a few weeks long, holding hands in the courtyard or making out in an alcove, but it never went beyond that. Poppy just considered relationships to be too much of a distraction, and she preferred not having to accommodate someone else’s needs when she had things to do herself. Not that she would ever be opposed to it, of course.
After her fifth year, her father announced that he’d been selected to oversee the newest project. That was all fine… except for one thing. It was going to be in the UK and she was expected to go with him, as, of course, she was only 16 years old. She didn’t want to leave her friends or her school, but alas. Hogwarts it was.
Poppy sat on the train with some girls that were obviously quite a bit younger than her after watching them run through the platform. Very strange, the UK, but Poppy did hope that her view at Hogwarts was going to be better than the brick wall she faced from her new bedroom in the apartment in London. Either way, she was spending time with kids much younger than her that were excited for their first year at Hogwarts, all the while Poppy was thinking about how much fun her own friends were having on the subway to Ilvermorny. She stared out the window the whole time.
Fortunately when she arrived at the castle, she wasn’t required to do the sorting ceremony with the first years, and she and Lauren Price were shuffled into the Headmistresses office and sorted there, both of them into Gryffindor, as it were. Whatever that meant. Poppy wasn’t super keen on making new friends, and it was the boys of Gryffindor that took her under their wing - Fox Bishop, Gus Darling, Daniel Gubler, Jacob Williams, and by extension, Matteo Cappello. The girls were pretty nice, too - Poppy made quick friends with Ariana Spiteri, but even quicker friends with one of Matteo’s Hufflepuff housemates, Paisley Carson. By extension there, then, was Jasmine Patel. One would think that more friends at Hogwarts meant she would be happier, but it was much different than that. Poppy was sad, not only because she was in a new place, but also because she had felt guilty about being a petulant brat toward her father for making her move there.
Poppy was enjoying her courses for the most part, but was having a hard time navigating the castle… that was her biggest complaint. The greenhouses were sizable and the creature sanctuary was in the forbidden forest - Poppy still had yet to figure out why it was forbidden, but her trouble-making days seemed to have halted the moment she got to Hogwarts.
Things about Poppy really were changing. While old Poppy might have tried to avoid the distraction of a relationship, Poppy couldn’t get enough of Matteo Cappello. Indulging her dog obsession with a day in a pen of crups, indulging her nostalgia for the pizza parlor that was around the corner from her Minneapolis apartment with a pizza date of their own. Soon enough, thoughts of school were replaced with thoughts of his smile, or the way his hair curled and fell over his forehead, or how he towered over her in the most adorable of ways. It wasn’t puppy love… not in the slightest. Something about being around Matteo made her feel like this was the one right thing she could do. The most right thing in her entire life.
In January, Poppy received a letter from her father letting her know that the project was ahead of schedule, and they would be heading back to the States in July instead of May of the following year. Devastated, Poppy couldn’t imagine leaving her new life at Hogwarts. Leaving Matteo.
On February 14th, 2012, Matty made their relationship official official, proposing to her on the spot. Things flourished from there - meeting the parents, planning, and even buying a house.

April 14
Strengths: Courageous, determined, confident, enthusiastic, optimistic, honest, passionate Weaknesses: Impatient, moody, short-tempered, impulsive, aggressive Aries likes: Comfortable clothes, taking on leadership roles, physical challenges, individual sports Aries dislikes: Inactivity, delays, work that does not use one's talents
As the first sign in the zodiac, the presence of Aries always marks the beginning of something energetic and turbulent. They are continuously looking for dynamic, speed and competition, always being the first in everything - from work to social gatherings. Thanks to its ruling planet Mars and the fact it belongs to the element of Fire (just like Leo and Sagittarius), Aries is one of the most active zodiac signs. It is in their nature to take action, sometimes before they think about it.
The Sun in such high dignity gives them excellent organizational skills, so you'll rarely meet an Aries who isn't capable of finishing several things at once, often before lunch break! Their challenges show when they get impatient, aggressive and vent anger pointing it to other people. Strong personalities born under this sign have a task to fight for their goals, embracing togetherness and teamwork through this incarnation.
Aries rules the head and leads with the head, often literally walking head first, leaning forwards for speed and focus. Its representatives are naturally brave and rarely afraid of trial and risk. They possess youthful strength and energy, regardless of their age and quickly perform any given tasks.

chestnut, unicorn tail hair, 9”. whippy This is a most curious, multi-faceted wood, which varies greatly in its character depending on the wand core, and takes a great deal of colour from the personality that possesses it. The wand of chestnut is attracted to witches and wizards who are skilled tamers of magical beasts, those who possess great gifts in Herbology, and those who are natural fliers. However, when paired with dragon heartstring, it may find its best match among those who are overfond of luxury and material things, and less scrupulous than they should be about how they are obtained. Conversely, three successive heads of the Wizengamot have possessed chestnut and unicorn wands, for this combination shows a predilection for those concerned with all manner of justice. Unicorn hair generally produces the most consistent magic, and is least subject to fluctuations and blockages. Wands with unicorn cores are generally the most difficult to turn to the Dark Arts. They are the most faithful of all wands, and usually remain strongly attached to their first owner, irrespective of whether he or she was an accomplished witch or wizard. Minor disadvantages of unicorn hair are that they do not make the most powerful wands (although the wand wood may compensate) and that they are prone to melancholy if seriously mishandled, meaning that the hair may 'die' and need replacing.

beagle patronus
Known for tracking and not looking back, these hunting dogs are very goal oriented. Beagles often get lonely if without company for too long. Beagles represent focus, nature, and opportunity.
