It was just another day in the office as Keelin poured over her paperwork. Morgan had been relying heavily on her to get the job done when it came to the vampire attacks, making her the point of contact with Charles De Luca. Keelin didn’t mind, but the fact that they were getting nowhere in this case was weighing heavy on her. She spoke to Rip and Anton about what they found in the initial attacks, but there was just no evidence save for the testimony of the surviving victims. And even that wasn’t much to go on. These rogues appeared out of nowhere, caused such utter devastation, and then disappeared in the night. She didn’t let it discourage her any, dedicating every last second of her free time on work. It was starting to affect her family, Keelin needing to rely more on Sam and Paul to take care of Kiera while she was here or out in the field. She missed spending time with her husband and her daughter, so she was determined to make some headway.[break][break]
Suddenly, there was a lot of movement around her. Everyone was getting out of their cubicle and congregating outside of the Captain’s office. Keelin looked around curiously, turning to look at Nyle who seemed to be as lost as she. The two partners stood from their desks and made their way into the crowd, pushing their way through to the front. Morgan was standing outside his office, looking particularly despaired. “There’s just been another attack,” he addressed the room with his commanding voice, perhaps a bit softened from his usual manner of address. “A vampire attacked a family picking wildberries outside their home in the Highlands.” There was an eruption of murmuring throughout the crowd, a dark and heavy cloud forming above them. [break][break]
“Keelin.” She looked up at her Captain with a raised brow. “I want you to take Paris and investigate the scene, then talk to the survivors at St. Mungos.” Keelin opened her mouth to protest - Nyle was her partner and she had Williams in training - but he didn’t look like he was open to negotiating these orders. Her gaze flicked over to where the younger Auror stood. She didn’t have anything against Paris; she was their best tracker and damn good at her job, but she could be a bit abrasive. Morgan gave the rest of his orders to the remaining Aurors and dismissed them.[break][break]
Keelin took a deep, steadying breath, offering Nyle an apologetic smile before she approached the other brunette. “Paris,” she greeted her kindly, offering a nod in her direction. “Are you ready to head out or do you need a moment?” They would head out of the Ministry and Apparate to the scene as soon as she was ready, Keelin taking the lead. When they landed, she dusted herself off and took a look around, igniting her wand to see better. It was already dark - it always got dark so early this time of year - and she could see splatters of blood all over the grass around them, a basket full of berries lay half-spilled by the bushes. “Where did he come from?” She asked out loud, looking around at the field they stood in. There was a bit of wilderness just over the hill, perhaps that’s where the attacker laid in waiting. Keelin pointed at it. “There’s as good of a place as any. What do you think?” She turned to look at her colleague.
