It was dinner by the time Lydia saw Ophelia again, but she didn’t feel as helpless as she thought she would. No, indeed she now had something to focus on. Something fun and exciting - a party! Carter and her hammered out all the details earlier after Potions and Lydia was going to put everything into action soon so it was ready by the time they came back from Christmas break. She finally had something to distract her from her mother’s sudden and unexpected death. Bella did the same thing after her mother died. So, by the time Ophelia was joining her at the Hufflepuff table Lydia was practically giddy. She bounced on her seat as her friend got closer, waiting until she sat down beside her to start talking. “How was your Divination lesson?” she asked, knowing Ophelia would understand her question. Since her vision, she’d been getting private meetings with the Divination professor to help her figure out what was going on. Turns out she’s a Seer, but Ophelia seemed to struggle with that a bit. The food appeared and Liza filled her plate while she listened to her answer.[break][break]
“I forgot to tell you that Noah’s engagement is off!” It seemed like such a silly oversight, but she supposed she had other things on her mind. “This is good news! Now you can be together,” she said, wagging her brows at her. For years, Lydia has been trying to hook up Ophelia with her brother. Not just because if they married that would make Cy her sister legally, but because she saw the way they looked at each other. It felt like she was the only one who saw it. The two of them just acted like silly gooses darting around the fact they have feelings for each other. Liza dug into her dinner, spreading butter on her dinner roll and taking a bite. She washed it down with some pumpkin juice. “Oh and Carter and I are throwing a party.”

Divination lessons were starting to feel less and less fun the more she came to terms with the things she was seeing being real. It had been novel at one point her aptitude for the class, but now it felt less like a fun party trick and more like she had too much weight on her shoulders from it all. She was glad she had Liza to talk to about it and Noah sometimes too. They tried to write every day and she sometimes saw mentions of him in articles, but they hadn’t actually seen each other since that day in Hogsmeade, she wondered idly, as he became more notable, if their relationship would remain as private as it was now. “Not bad…” Ophelia began to explain, watching the food appear as she kicked her feet idly under the table, rubbing under her eyes for a moment to try and will the tiredness and unease away, stacking her plate with the fruits and vegetables and breads that were available. “I have to go back tomorrow at some point, probably during our free period. We’re… not quite finished with what we were doing.” Ophelia would explain more later, before bed when they had some time alone. She always did.
Ophelia’s eyes widened when Liza spoke again. Gods above, how could she have possibly forgotten? She reached out and grasped Lydia’s arm in her hand, letting out a startled laugh as she ran her other hand through her hair, letting out a giggle. “I-… I know.” Ominous, maybe, coming from a seer, but everything had been so crazy since Lydia had gotten back! It really had just slipped her mind to tell her best friend what had happened, even if that felt impossible. “He sent me an owl one night-… and I snuck into hogsmeade to see him while you were back home.” She whispered, no need for anyone to overhear what she had done, lest she be punished for it. She paused at the other bit of information, cocking her head to the side. “A party? Can I help?”

Liza nodded solemnly as Ophelia told her of her “lesson”. She knew that when their dorm mates were asleep Cy would climb into her bed and tell her more. The whole Seer thing was scary and she still felt bad that she had to see her mum die like she did. Still, without Ophelia they would have never known until it was too late. At least they got the chance to say goodbye. That’s more than most would get in the same situation. Lydia would be there every step of the way. She just hoped Professor Swanson was able to help her control it, if that was even a thing. [break][break]
She certainly didn’t expect that reaction out of Ophelia. Lydia’s eyes widened and she couldn’t help but giggle with her, a little confused as to how she knew. Then she continued to explain and her brows shot up, her eyes widening even more. He sent her an owl? Did this mean? Lydia put a hand ontop of Cy’s and leaned forward, speaking in a hushed tone, “Okay, you can’t just say that and then not tell me what happened!” What did he say? Did he admit his feelings? Did the thing that she’s been hoping for for so long finally happen? She couldn’t leave her hanging like that. [break][break]
As for the party, “Yes, of course you can help! We can work together to get everything started. We need to talk to Rory about drinks and convince the house elves to give us some food. Oh, and we have to get in good with the fairies at the sanctuary.” Carter was handling talking to Jay and Silas. He was way better at Transfiguration than Lydia was so he would handle the setting up. It was going to be really fun! She could hardly wait.

Ophelia honest to god giggled as she held onto her friend, leaning her head close against her shoulder as she took a moment to contain herself, smile on her face. “He was just- checking in I think-… at first at least. He just said to meet him at the three broomsticks. And he sort of told me what had happened and then what he told your dad.” Ophelia said quietly, moving to sit up a bit as she popped an apple slice into her mouth. She couldn’t believe that of all the things she could have forgotten to tell Liza that this was it. It felt ridiculous. Maybe it was but everything had felt so private! And now here she was, spilling secrets.
“It honestly-… we both were crying. It was very emotionally charged, But we talked about how we felt for each other.” Why did this feel so awkward to explain? She could feel the blush rising high on her cheeks as she let out a soft laugh, scrubbing a hand over her right cheek as if to Will the shyness she suddenly felt away. “….he said we could take things at whatever pace I’m comfortable with? But to be completely honest I don’t know what pacing on something like this is supposed to be, do you?” Ophelia asked the last part as a whisper. Her and Noah hadn’t actually seen each other since that night, he was busy with quidditch and Ophelia with school but that didn’t stop them trying to write everyday.
“Oh! This part is going to be so fun.” She only wished Noah would be able to be there, but that was sort of a big ask.

Lydia listened very intently to Ophelia as she spoke, her baby blue eyes fixed on her face, taking in the way she smiled and feeling more and more excited the longer she talked. Well, it turns out he did something right after all. The fight between him and their father was rough, especially given it happened just moments after their mother passed. Noah just up and left. Instead of having her older brother to lean on, she had to fight to keep everything together for Ryder. Lydia was mad, but she forgave him after he sent a letter apologizing to her. Perhaps he was changing after all. And she had to wonder if Ophelia had anything to do with it. Her lips spread into a wide grin and she gripped Cy’s arm in her excitement. “I knew it would all work out!” Certified matchmaker right here everybody.[break][break]
Well, Liza had never been in a relationship either so she wasn’t quite sure what pace was normal. Her brows pulled together slightly as she thought about what to tell her, her fingers reaching out for her dinner roll, tearing it apart, and popping it in her mouth. While she slowly chewed, she pondered what a normal relationship looked like. The media would have you believe it all happened very quickly, but she didn’t know if that was “normal” or not. “I don’t know,” she said at last, a small frown touching her lips. “I guess you have to ask yourself what level of PDA you’re comfortable with?” She kept pulling off bits of her dinner roll and eating them. “I suppose that’s what he was talking about.” Again, she didn’t know either because she’s never even been kissed. “You could be like Liv and Leo or Matty and Poppy,” she said, picking at her mashed potatoes. Though, she supposed the latter wasn’t the best of examples. They got married before they even graduated. “Or you could be like Georgia and Luke.” They were classic examples of taking things slowly.[break][break]
But, yes, the party! As excited as Liza was that her friend and her brother had finally gotten together, she was even more excited to be throwing a party with her mates. “I know! What should we do first? Maybe see if Rory can smuggle drinks? Or the fairies?” Both seemed like tasks that needed time to put together.

Georgia and Luke maybe then. She sighed and popped another carrot into her mouth, chewing on it thoughtfully before speaking again, thinking back to the night in the pub. “I don’t know. I’m not sure I’m doing any of this right, but I’m just hoping I’m not misstepping… everything was just so emotionally charged.” But that was sort of her M.O. wasn’t it? She had never truly known the concept personal space, emotional or otherwise, as well as some might wish her too. She tapped her fingers on the table before shrugging her shoulders. Oh well, they could talk about it more when they saw each other again. Hopefully sooner rather than later, she really missed him and writing, while it helped just wasn’t enough.
Ah party planning. She popped a grape into her mouth and considered her options idly. What would take the most time?… probably the faeries right? Smuggling drinks too but without the faeries cooperation they would sort of be out of luck. “I would think the faeries? Right?” Or maybe she was thinking way to hard about the integral role of the faeries. What could she say? she thought they were delightful. “Besides, I think so long as you’re asking Rory won’t have any issues getting what you need.” Ophelia said, thinking back to her previous interaction she’d had with him a few weeks prior. “You know he literally ran into me the other day?”

“I think you’re gonna do just fine,” Lydia reassured her with a pat to her arm before lifting a turkey leg to her mouth to take a bite. Noah really liked her, she could tell. As far as she knew, he had never told one of his girlfriends they could take things slow if they wanted. He was always running around snogging girls throughout the castle. It seemed like there was a different girl every week until Ophelia. Since that concert she so artfully arranged, she hadn’t seen her brother with another girl. That was kind of a big deal. “He’s so in love with you I don’t think there’ll be any problems.” She added, smiling with a mouthful of turkey. Cy shrugged it all off and she knew she’d probably talk to Noah when she got the chance.[break][break]
Lydia nodded in agreement when Ophelia said faeries first. “Oh, yeah, definitely.” They were vain and stubborn creatures, but so beautiful. Liza was good with magical creatures, but even she knew she needed time to get them to warm up to her. The bit about Rory though. Lydia looked at Ophelia, her brow furrowed in befuddlement. What did she mean by that? Her brows raised when she said he ran into her. “He ran into you? Well, that was rude,” she remarked, frowning at her plate. “What do you mean as long as I’m asking?” Rory was a popular kid and she was sure he’d do whatever to help his friends out. She didn’t see what she had to do with it.
