The party had been a bit of a blast. At first. Kit and Al spent the good first chunk taking shots (Kit couldn’t even remember what the goal was with the drinking game, just that it had something to do with Cody and Alice), and it turned into just. Taking shots. But then…she showed up. Her. Kit’s former classmate. And when she went to find Alice, she found that her friend was off talking to some other hit wizards (Cody was standing dutifully as the trophy quidditch fiance that he was) and Kit knew it wouldn’t look good on her as a coworker or as a best friend to go cry in Alice’s arms. She couldn’t imagine how…well…it just had to be a lot. Alice could talk her down from a rooftop but she couldn’t convince her that loving Alvin was a lost cause.
So Kit found herself in the bathroom at the Vampire’s Den, holed up in a stall. A part of Kit didn’t even know what she was crying about - crying about being drunk, maybe, but mostly because it was hard for her to see him following her around like a little puppy, like she shit gold bricks or something. Clearly she was something that Kit would never be, and she knew she just had to get over it. She had to find herself a distraction worth being distracted for - for her own sanity. And…probably Alice’s too.
Fortunately, when she’d been washing her hands and splashing water in her face, it wasn’t another ministry official that strolled into the bathroom, but her new friend, Mona. It hadn’t been too long ago that they’d been at this very same place crying about their problems (well, Kit was crying about it, Mona was very nonchalant and cool and Kit was kind of jealous that she had such a strong resolve). A whole conversation (and convincing Mona not to kill Alvin) later, the two young women were out in the crowd, and Mona’s outstretched finger pointed out someone sitting at the bar. Kit knew that face…
Avi Park.
Avi was the oldest cousin of Alvin’s. She’d met him once or twice when Alvin brought her and Alice to karaoke, and he had time in his busy schedule to be there as well. Not that they’d ever talked, but Kit would have had to be blind to not notice how attractive he is with his shaggy dark hair, eyes that just…suck you right in and drown you in their darkness, and those arms. And if Kit were sober, she would have told Mona that Avi was off limits based on who he was in relation to Alvin, but drunk Kit thought, and perhaps she would regret it in the morning, that maybe something like this would be the best way to get his attention.
She had been fake dating Ricky for a few weeks now and that was…something. SHe wasn’t bothered, really, and she wasn’t entirely sure it was going to work. But this? This might work. So she strolled up toward Avi (fortunately there was a stool open next to him) and ordered herself a drink (something she didn’t need to do - she was definitely not in need of another drink) started talking to Avi, and when she could see Alvin out of the corner of her eye…she went for it. She pulled Avi by the collar (he was quite tall! But at least he was facing her) and kissed him. And at first he seemed like he was into it, but after a moment, he pulled back and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, looking at her rather incredulously before excusing himself. Kit looked around - she didn’t see Mona, or Alice, or Alvin…she was alone.
And that was more stressful than watching Alvin toddle after Ava. So she left. She went home and cried into her pillow.

Avi Park hadn’t intended to go to the Ministry Party, but Cassie had off-mentioned something about covering the party for the magazine, and he thought, well, maybe he could make a point to go. He was telling himself that it wasn’t to see Cassie, or for any reason to do with Cassie. It was a chance to get out of the house and prove that he was still himself.
A lot of people came up to him to say hello or to try buying him a drink, but Avi wasn’t interested. His attention was elsewhere - he didn’t know where he was focused, but it clearly wasn’t on the people in front of him. A dark haired witch had made it clear she wasn’t interested, and the ones that were…he wasn’t interested in. Avi found himself taking his third shot when a tiny witch came up beside him and ordered a drink, and it took him a second look before he realized who it was - well, he didn’t know exactly who she was. One of his cousins’ friends - she’d gone to karaoke before. He talked to her, and never got her name before she was pulling him by the collar, planting her lips on his. At first…at first he was into it, putting his hand on her waist, but after another moment, nothing felt right, and he pulled back, wiping his lips with his hand.
”Excuse me, I have to…” he said, slipping away from the bar and leaving her there.
Avi didn’t know what his problem was. She was a cute girl. Normal Avi would have been all over that, inviting her back to his flat. Inviting one of the interested witches before her back to his flat. But…for some reason, ‘tis not the season for Avi wanting to bring anyone back to his flat. Or kiss anyone. Or…do anything he normally would have done. It wasn’t because of Cassie - no one was going to convince him of that. Avi didn’t do feelings and Avi didn’t date. And Avi didn’t think twice before leaving, his eyes taking one last sweep over the party to realize that Cassie wasn’t even there.
But it wasn’t about Cassie.

Spending the party taking shots with Kit during a drinking game forged at the expense of Alice and Cody...Alvin had been having a great night. Alice and Cody had taken the time to show the best friends the shiny ring on Alice's ring finger and on top of this being a holiday party, it had also turned into a miniature engagement celebration between the small group. Alvin was happy for his friends and he was glad that he was getting a little extra time with Kit. He had been pretty worried about whether or not Kit had been distancing herself lately.
The evening waged on and the group laughed and joked about until...well, until a rather drunk Alvin spotted an enchantingly gorgeous Ava across the room. Excusing himself, he left to say his hellos. And, as usual, Ava hardly seemed interested. Alvin's mind flashed back to the Hogsmeade Harvest Festival and the conversation he had with Abe...perhaps it was time to ask Ava whether or not there was a possibility of them ever being together.
But...drunk in a very public party surrounded by their colleagues hardly seemed like the proper time. So he excused himself and turned to find his friends.
Alice and Cody were off talking to some of Alice's coworkers.
But Kit was at the bar with Avi. So with a smile, Alvin moved to join them. But what he saw...for some reason, made his stomach turn. Kit and Avi were...kissing. Which was completely okay. They were two single adults and could do anything they wanted. But...Alvin just couldn't figure out the horrible feeling it put in him.
So with his newfound sense of nausea, Alvin turned his heel and popped out. Feet landing in his bedroom, he shuffled down the hall, splashing cold water on his face before staring in the mirror for a moment.
What was that feeling?

Cassie had been having a pretty good time at the party. It was the type of event she never really received invitations to. Not participatory ones, anyway. She was usually there with her team to cover the events and print off a story that painted the Ministry in a magical light. And tonight she was doing just that. She and Mari were here to cover both the high class fashion of the evening, as well as run the story on the ministry's new minister.
Snapping pics here and there, Cassie kept an eye peeled for Avi as she worked. She was sure she would have time to say hello and such.
The past couple weeks had been lovely. She'd seen him more than she thought she ever would. And she had most certainly caught feelings for the Arrows' captain. And after their night in her flat after the karaoke date, she was mildly convinced that maybe he had feelings for her too. So she was eager to see where their relationship would go from there.
Smiling, she turned to snap a photograph of Mona Carrozza and her designer dress...but what caught her eye caused her heart to fall right into her stomach. Lowering her camera after getting the shots, she smiled weakly and waved as Mona left before she turned away from the bar.
She didn't want to watch Avi lip locked with another woman...but that's exactly what she would see if she turned back around. So instead, she beelined for Mari, handed over her camera, and made some excuse about leaving early. And she did. Walking out into the night air, Cassie took a deep breath and turned to walk home...before she paused, her mind changing. She changed her course and made her way to her office before walking in, locking the door behind her and sitting at her desk.
She had known this would happen.
She had known that Avi didn't commit.
She had known she was going to get hurt.
And here she was...crying in her office over a man who she had known would never return her affections.
