Sunny sighed as he touched down on the green of the pitch next to Layla. He had to admit...the girl had impressed him. She had come to him and asked for some extra practice time to perfect her shot...he liked the initiative and the drive. Sunny wasn't an easy keeper to get around. He had had the luxury of training next to his brother for years...then he had had the privilege of attending a few training camps put on by the Korean National Team. His entire life had been devoted to his craft and his natural ability and raw talent just made him an absolute beast before the rings. Hufflepuff had learned the hard way...the only two goals scored on him were because they had gotten lucky enough to catch him distracted.
But thankfully Bo was okay...and Gia was...still very much Gia.
Layla hadn't let up easy though. She had come very close to scoring on him several times...but they needed a break. Sunny plopped down...grabbing his wand and summoning their water bottles before handing Layla her own.
"You are doing well," he offered, his accent thick but his English good. "How long have you played?"

When the new transfer became Quidditch Captain, Layla was a little skeptical. She didn’t know him, his playing style, or even if he’d be able to live up to Stella. She kept an open mind about him, though, never one to pass judgment on someone she didn’t know. He was… very good. At Quidditch, at being Captain, just… amazing. It wasn’t long before she started to look up to him. The last match against Hufflepuff had been a hard, but rewarding one. They were doing so well until Ashdown caught the snitch. While she was disappointed they didn’t win, she was still proud of her classmates for a game well played. She made sure to visit Bo in the hospital wing and was glad to hear he was doing just fine.[break][break]
While their teamwork was top notch, Layla felt she needed more practice making shots. It was somewhat of a weakness of hers. At least, in her eyes. She asked Sunny for a little one on one practice and he was very obliging. They worked hard out on the pitch and by the time they touched down, she was exhausted. Layla smiled gratefully at Sunny as he handed her her water. She tipped the bottle to her lips, drinking about half of it in one go. When his words reached her ears, she lowered her bottle, twisting the cap back on. His accent was pretty thick, but then again so was hers. “Thank you,” she said, smiling softly. “Since I was a little girl. My sister played when she was in school.” She didn’t mention that her sister was Professor Lancaster. It was nice to talk to someone who didn’t know their relationship. “You play exceptionally well. We’re very lucky to have you as a Captain.”[break][break]
Coming to a new school must be difficult. Layla often wondered how the new raven was getting along. He had his cousins, she knew, but did he have friends? “I think I’m a bit tired. Could we pick up practice tomorrow evening?” She wanted more practice, but her stomach was gurgling. “We could walk to dinner together? If you’d like.” Layla shouldered her bag before picking up her broom. She looked at him expectantly, waiting for his answer before she started walking.

Sunny was aware of the talks and whispers surrounding him being named Captain. He had put in for it solely because Georgia had encouraged him too...and much to his surprise, he had actually gotten it. Thankfully, the team seemed willing to give him a chance and he took it to heart. They had faith in him and he needed to validate that faith.
So he took these training requests seriously and he was happy to oblige. He had made it a point to reach out to their seeker and schedule some time to work on speed drills with the kid too. He wanted them all to reach their full potential. He knew they could.
Sunny listened to Layla speak as he sipped at his water. And as she turned the conversation to him, complementing him, he offered her a small bow of thanks.
"Thank you," he offered. It was no secret among the team that his oldest brother was Avi...The seeker and captain for the Arrows. And it had caused a bit of shatter already. It just...was what it was.
I think I'm a bit tired.
Sunny couldn't blame her. He had run her pretty hard the last couple hours. But she had kept up and that spoke volumes to him. Sunny nodded, grabbing up his broom and falling into step with her as she mentioned heading to dinner.
He had plans to meet up with Gia for dinner...but walking with Layla back to the castle would be nice.
"Do you plan to play after you graduate?"
His dark eyes look over to her and he lifted a brow. He knew not everyone played school quidditch with the intent of going pro. He knew Georgia had dreams of opening her own bakery...despite how talented and amazing she was on the pitch. So he was curious about Layla's plans or dreams.

Layla was glad he decided to walk with her. It would be nice to get to know her new teammate a little better. She walked alongside him, her bag on one shoulder and her broom on the other. When he asked if she planned to play after graduation, she hummed softly. She knew her answer well. “For fun, oui. But no, I want to work as a photographer. Maybe with the Prophet or Witch Weekly,” she said with a small smile, looking over at him. She wondered how she might feel if Anita went pro. It had been an option once upon a time. Would she feel overshadowed by her sister? Would she idolize her? Layla thought of Sunny and his older brother, Captain of the Appleby Arrows. And she wondered. “And you?” She asked curiously as they walked up the path to the castle. It was still a ways away so they had plenty of time to talk.

For fun.
Sunny nodded slowly as she spoke. He respected the individuals who only played for fun...but he never understood it. But she mentioned working as a photographer and he shrugged. Witch Weekly...that had been the magazine that had run a story claiming Avi was retiring last year...and Avi hadn't been happy about it. Last Sunny had heard, his oldest brother was going to pay the editor a visit.
He wondered how that went.
But he didn't have long to dwell before Layla asked him about his post school plans.
"Oh...I already got a bit...Ballycastle wants me..."
He left it at that. He hadn't accepted yet. But he was sure he was going to. His brothers and cousins wanted him to wait and see who else offered him a spot since the Bats weren't really doing so hot these days. But...Sunny just had a gut feeling.
"I have always wanted to follow Avi into the professional league...it feels nice to know that I will have a team next year."

So he wanted to go pro after all. Layla nodded solemnly as he spoke, her gaze flickering from his face to the path ahead of them. Of course she had wondered if she might play Quidditch professionally had she had the chance, but her camera called to her more than her broom did. It was a passion of hers to capture beauty the way she did. And seeing her photos become paintings of Nita’s was just the cherry on top. “They’ll be very lucky to have you,” she said sincerely, adjusting her broom a little. She wasn’t talented enough to get an offer, she was sure, but it was nice to know that such talent as his would be put to good use. It wouldn’t surprise her if Georgia got an offer or two, but she knew her friend had other plans after graduation. “I enjoy Quidditch very much,” she said after a moment. “I just think my talents lie elsewhere.”[break][break]
They walked along in silence for a little bit. Layla thought of her sister and started to wonder if she had wanted to play professionally. She supposed she never asked. Anita seemed quite content with her situation at present. “Have you enjoyed your classes?” she broke the silence first. “I would think Hogwarts was a big adjustment for you.”

They'll be very lucky to have you.
Yes, Sunny was sure of that. Perhaps it was cocky of him...but it was no secret that the bats weren't doing so well these days. But their keeper and at least one chaser was retiring this year. He had been in contact with their recruiter and owner and things were all but signed and sealed for him to replace the keeper. With potentially two chasers retiring, it was Sunny's pipe dream to talk the owner into trading his other chaser to make room for three rookie chasers to move in. It would be a controversial move in the quidditch world...but Sunny had no doubt that Raelynn, Georgia, and Gia would make one hell of a team.
He listened to Layla explain that her talents lie off her broom and he just nodded again.
He understood that. Koda too had displayed talent on a broom...but his ultimate talent lay in healing. And Sunny was proud of him. He was sure that Layla would do well wherever she landed. Though quickly, the conversation moved to classes.
Sunny shrugged slightly.
"We never had all the extra class options you have here...music, art, runes...we mostly focused on practical application courses."
His brow furrowed slightly. He missed his friends and his old life...but he had to admit that Hogwarts was opening up more doors for him than his old school did. Here, he was getting more face time with recruiters. It was...nice, in a way.
