HISTORY: Jane was a product of an affair her father had with who he thought was a beautiful muggle woman. Her mother died shortly after she was born, so her father took her home and raised her alongside his son, with his wife.
Growing up, Jane sometimes played with her older brother, but she often liked to play by herself. She would not play with children outside her family, showing no interest in them. When she was four, she started playing with her imaginary pet unicorn, Rainbow, who she began to consider her best friend. Her father, who had had an autistic younger sibling, noticed signs of autism in her at an early age, and she was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder level-1.
She always had a good relationship with her father and brother, but not with the woman she thought was her mother (I’m just going to refer to her step-mother as her mother, from now on.). She always loved her mother, but her mother never liked her very much. Her mother would often get mad at her for the tiniest things. Sometimes she would even use harsh corporal punishment on Jane, but most of the time her father stopped it.
She didn’t mind school too much, in preschool and kindergarten, but when she started first grade she began to hate it. She was a rather active child and hated having to sit still for so long, and a lot of the lessons were boring and sometimes confusing. She also started to notice other children with their friends and decided that she wanted friends. She started attempting to make friends, but a lot of children didn’t seem to like her very much. Girls mostly ignored her. Boys often picked on her, and she was told that the boys who picked on her probably liked her, but she never really bought that. At least she always had Rainbow.
Jane couldn't help but notice that Rainbow could do magical things. Most commonly she would repel mean people from Jane, or bring something to Jane without anybody touching it.
When Jane was nine, two older girls ambushed Jane in the school bathroom, complained that she was a freak but was still prettier than them, and then tried to dunk her head in the toilet. Rainbow showed up and the girls magically shot away from her, and one of them got hurt. The girls lied and said that Jane just attacked them for no reason. Her father didn't believe that could have possibly happened, but her mother was furious. Rainbow would not use her magic on Jane's mother, because she feared that Jane would be very severally punished if she did.
When she was ten, her mother told her that she was much too old for imaginary things and that she should get rid of Rainbow, but she wouldn't. On her eleventh birthday, she got a cat, who she named, Lemon Drop. Her mother told her that now that she had a pet she shouldn't need her unicorn anymore. Less than a week later, her father died in an accident. Jane was devastated. The next day, her mother came inside with her hunting rifle and announced that she had gotten rid of Rainbow the unicorn for her. Jane believed her, even though her brother told her she was lying.
A few weeks later, a representative of Hogwarts came and told her that she was a witch. This really cheered her up, but she did worry that it was a mistake and that they just thought she was magical because Rainbow was. Her brother thought it was cool, but her mother didn’t seem to think so.
Going shopping for school supplies was awesome. The best part was what happened at the wand shop. The wand that chose her had a unicorn hair core. She decided that the hair must be from Rainbow, and when she showed her brother afterward he agreed, so she determined that Rainbow must still be alive and watching over her. After all, Rainbow's magic was apparently still there. The idea that Rainbow's magic could actually be hers, had never occurred to her.
Her mother soon started using harsh corporal punishment on her every day, even though she never had a reason to be punishing on her. The punishments were really harsh and often resulted in bruising. Her brother tried to protect her, but that made the punishments worse, and he eventually stopped trying. He did take the time to comfort her and remind her of where she was going. This went on for about a month before it was time to leave for Hogwarts, with Lemon Drop the cat, and Rainbow the unicorn.
At Hogwarts, she’s been doing okay. She gets along alright with people in her house, although she has noticed that most boys are nicer to her than most girls. She still believes that the magic from her wand comes from Rainbow, and not her. She loves learning magic, but she hates feeling like a fraud. She doesn’t know she’s part-veela, or even what a veela is.This lovely character is being played by Neigh! Alias has been roleplaying for several years, and play n/a on this site. ROLEPLAY SAMPLE: Commotion rang in Jane's ears, as she approached the Quidditch stands. She pulled her earplugs, which were attached to a chain around her neck, out from under her shirt, and put them in. The noise disappeared, and she watched as people crowded into the stands. Once the stand was mostly full, she got in on the far end of a row. This way she wouldn’t be so much in the crowd, and she could also easily leave if she felt the need.
Jane looked at the Quidditch Pitch, watching the game. The mere idea of flying was awesome, and she had been doing alright in her flying lessons so far. She didn’t think she would ever want to play Quidditch though. The idea of having to dodge balls was terrifying, even if you were not up in the air. It was probably good that she did not want to play Quidditch, as she had never been a quick thinker. Jane had never been interested in sports, but this was more exciting to watch than most muggle sports.
