Hands shaking, Nico clung to Erin as they walked through the halls of the ministry. He had been brought in for questioning after V had confessed to her crimes. Nico had been blindsided. He never expected her to be…what she was.
And he still wasn’t fully certain.
Someone had to put her up to confessing. But they assured him that wasn’t the case. And she had told the Wizengamot of her plans to militarize the next generation. But he was honest when questioned. He had never seen her do anything bad. He would bring her food. He would spend time with her. They would laugh and talk and then he would hug her and they would part ways.
She had become like a big sister to him.
And so when a ministry official came in with an auror with a soft, kind smile…and they had asked if he would like to see her…
He had eagerly accepted.
So here they were…outside of an observation room. And there was V…tending to some plants. He watched her a moment, a fond, small smile playing on his lips. She looked healthier.
You can go say hello…if you’d like.
Nico offered his older brother a smile before letting go of him…Roni stepping up to wrap her arms around Erin supportively as Nico made his way to the door…and then opened it.
Her eyes looked up at him and she froze as he did. Both of them just looking at each other.
Nickie…?
Nico nodded…tears pricking his eyes as he took a few steps toward her. He watched as she set her sheers down…advancing to him empty handed. Her arms opened to him and he fell into them, sobbing against her shoulder as she held him.
I’m sorry Nickie…
Her voice was a whisper. Nico clung to her a few moments more before lifting his head and looking at her. Tears brimmed her own eyes as she pushed his hair out of his face. She was still the soft soul he knew…
He still couldn’t believe she had killed so many people.
They sat and they talked for a while. She showed Nico her plants…told him how she was spending her days (a modified version that wouldn’t upset him but he didn’t know that). She promised him she was trying to do better.
And that was enough for Nico.
A knock sounded from the door and Nico knew it was time to go. He gave V one last hug before turning to leave, tears spilling down his face as the door closed between them.
He turned to look at his brother…speaking Korean to keep it between them.
”She’s not bad…I promise…”
