I think we can make this better...for the time being.
It was the first game of the season and her brother and fiancé were both playing on opposing teams. This should be fun. Emma and Ellie took to the stands with the other first years in their house. They were all decked out in their scarves and some had even taken to painting their faces a little. The girls opted for a more subtle approach. Emma waited and chatted with Ellie until Professor Quinn took to the pitch and both teams flew out to start the game.
It was an exciting start for Slytherin and everything was going great and then it happened. She watched as Julian hurled a bludger right at Gus, knocking him off his broom and hurtling to the ground. Emma stood in the bleachers as she watched Gus fall to the ground, thankfully slowed down by Professor Quinn. She hadn't told any of her friends, except Ellie, about her engagement so she quickly sat back down to not draw any attention to herself bu she couldn't shake the worry that set in as Gus was taken from the field.
"I think I forgot to do that Home Ec assignment for Davis," she shouted down to her friends as she began to stand. "I'll see you guys later." Emma exited the arena, she could barely see Professor Lancaster carrying off Gus Darling across the grounds. This was a weird and new feeling for her, she had spent the past few months dreading her love life and now she was compelled to follow her fiancé off the field.
The game was long over and the Gryffindor's friends and teammates had come and gone, leaving the hospital wing empty as Emma Blackthorn poked her head in. "Gus?" It came out as a whisper and she got silence in return. The little serpent moved further into the Hospital Wing spotting the lion resting in one of the hospital beds.
Emma took a seat at the end of his bed and looked over at Gus. She internally struggled whether she ought to hold his hand out of comfort but decided against it. Madam Alden said that it would be some time before he woke up, so Emma waited. "I just..." she cast her eyes towards the lion. "I just don't want him to be alone when he wakes up." Alden walked away with a nod.
At first Emma was distraught about her engagement and she still was to a point but the young serpent had gotten used to the idea of Augustus Darling. He was so kind to her, despite their unfortunate circumstances. Things could be worse, things could always be worse. Emma and her brothers really did luck out when they got their engagements. No one else saw it this way but it was a small win in her books. Curling up at the foot of Gus' bed, Emma started to doze off.
